Climate, Agriculture & Food Policy

How does climate change reshape agriculture and food security, and how can policy help societies respond?

This course explores the interconnected relationships among climate change, agricultural production, natural resources, food security, and policy. Students examine both how climate change affects agriculture and how agricultural systems contribute to climate change, while critically considering pathways toward more sustainable and climate-resilient food systems.

How can systems thinking help us understand and transform the complex challenges facing food and agricultural systems?

This course introduces students to systems thinking and modeling complex food, agriculture, and policy challenges. Students explore feedback loops, interdependence, complexity, emergence, and dynamic system behavior while learning to use systems mapping, modeling, and simulation tools to analyze real-world problems and identify opportunities for meaningful systems change.

My teaching brings together climate, agriculture, food systems, sustainability, and policy through a systems perspective. I encourage students to look beyond individual problems or technical solutions and examine the relationships, feedback, trade-offs, and inequalities that shape how food and agricultural systems respond to change.

My courses combine interdisciplinary scholarship with real-world cases, data, policy analysis, systems thinking, multimedia, and applied learning. Students are encouraged not only to understand complex problems but also to communicate what they learn and consider how knowledge can inform more resilient, sustainable, and equitable food futures.

Students encounter ideas through research, data, case studies, podcasts, stories, visual communication, discussion, and simulation, and then apply them to real-world food and agricultural challenges.
